How the CDC can help
Meet with a counselor
Career Counselors are available to students and alumni to provide
one-on-one assistance. Counselors offer guidance with various aspects
of the career development process, from internship decisions to
figuring out your future career path.
Walk-Ins: You do not need an appointment to see a counselor
during a walk-in session. Walk-ins are held at the CDC Monday -
Thursday: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are typically limited to
15-minute sessions.
Appointments: If the walk-in times are not convenient, or if
a more lengthy session is required, you may set up an individual
appointment with a counselor. You can schedule an appointment with a
counselor by visiting the office or calling 289-8547. See CDC
Appointment Policy at:

You may also contact one of our counselors by e-mail. To do so,
please write to our office at
cdc@richmond.edu with your needs. A counselor will be in
touch with you shortly!
Making the most of your visit with a counselor
We want to see you! Although no preparation is required, you might
be interested in the following.
Some people like to do some preparation before meeting with a
counselor (if you're not one of those people, that's absolutely
fine--we'd love to meet with you whether you've prepared for hours or
just decided to stop by on a whim).
- Brainstorm about what it is you want to discuss and
write your ideas down on a piece of paper. Even this small
task will better help the counselors understand what you're
thinking, looking for, etc.
- Review the website prior to your
appointment to see what supporting resources are available
online.
- Keep an open mind of how to be helped
- Think about this particular visit. What do you hope to
accomplish during your visit? One suggestion is to think about
the big and small questions you want to discuss.
Why do most people get in touch with the CDC? Most
students and alumni come to us because they just don't know
what to do next–whether it's in planning a major, or their
internship, job, or career search. The counselors are here to
help them discuss options.
Here's a sample of the things that bring people to us:
- Undecided about major
- Undecided about career
- Internship information
- Help with graduate school
- Job search plan
- Résumé/cover letter assistance
- Interview assistance
- Info on specific careers
Our website: Our website can prove to be very
helpful to you, and we encourage you to explore it. This link takes
you to the site index, so you can see what information is available to
you.
