Arts

Some fields of interest to help you brainstorm organizations to look into: Advertising Agencies, bookstores, publishers, newspapers, magazines, trade journals, radio and television stations, film companies, travel agencies, libraries, schools and universities, art or dance schools, photography studios, historical societies, art galleries, music stores, or museums.

Some fields of interest to help you brainstorm organizations to look into: Child care organizations, test-development corporations, summer camps, research organizations, schools and universities, halfway houses, youth organizations, or bookstores.

Government

Some fields of interest to help you brainstorm organizations to look into: Government offices (local, state, or federal), law firms, lobbyist organizations, and environmental protection agencies.

Health Professions

Appropriate resources for opportunities within the health professions are largely determined by the scope of your interest within the field. Those with a biomedical research interest may want to look toward universities, biotech/pharmaceutical companies and major research organizations (such as Memorial Sloan Kettering or Massachusetts General). If the interest lies more within the realm of policy or administration, government offices (think local, state, and federal) or non-profit organizations (American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, National AIDS Fund) would be likely starting points. If direct patient contact is the goal try hospitals, nursing homes, summer camps for disabled/terminally ill children, outreach clinics or, for veterinary pursuits, zoos, wildlife refuges, or private clinics. Keep in mind that health-related internships (especially clinical experiences and non-profit work) is often unpaid.
