On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) Program
To participate in On-Campus Interviewing, you must first
complete your profile and upload your resume to
your SpiderConnect
account. SpiderConnect is the program that allows you
to register to receive the CC newsletter, submit résumés
for internships and full-time opportunities, and sign
up for interviews on-line.

What do you do if you missed the sign-up
period for a recruiter? What if all of the recruiter's
interview slots are full? |
| Cancellation

and weaknesses. |
| Please Note: |
Services and resources of the CDC, including on-campus
recruiting opportunities, are limited to students and
alumni/ae of the University of Richmond. Current students
have priority for interview slots. |
Information Sessions and Commons Visits
Information sessions are presentations arranged by employers
and internship sponsors to inform potential candidates about
their organizations. They may be scheduled in conjunction with
or instead of on-campus interview dates. Sign up for information
sessions through SpiderConnect by clicking on the "View Events"
option. It is important to note that you must be registered
to sign up for information sessions, and the cancellation
and no-show policy is the same for information sessions
as it is for interviews. Unless you are specifically
notified by an employer that dress is not "professional," you
should always dress professionally. This is the "first
impression" and you want to be sure you make the right one!
Commons visits are less formal opportunities for employers
to interact with students. Organizations set up tables in the
Commons and encourage students to speak with their representatives
informally. No sign-up or registration is required. Often recruiters
will discuss full- and part-time positions and internships during
these visits.

Waiting Lists
If you miss the sign up period for an employer, or if all the
spaces on an interview schedule are filled when you log on to
schedule an interview, you should contact
Lynn
Burgess, Administrative Assistant for Employer Relations at
the CDC (287-6629) to get on a waiting list for the organization.
If there is a last minute cancellation or if the employer is
able to expand his/her schedule, Mrs. Burgess may be able to
move you from the waiting list to the interview schedule.
A waitlisted student may also contact the employer directly,
sending a cover letter and résumé. That employer may decide
to open a spot on her/his interview schedule. Contact information
for on-campus recruiting employers is available from Mrs.
Burgess
at the CDC.

Cancellation and No-Show Policy
Cancellations: If you sign up for an interview or information session and later
determine that you cannot honor that commitment, cancel your
interview time or information session RSVP through
SpiderConnect. If SpiderConnect does not provide the option to cancel,
it is because it is too close to the interview date and that employer
has already been notified that you will be meeting with him/her.
At this point, it is necessary to follow the no-show procedures
listed below.
No-Shows:
If you fail to attend a scheduled appointment (interview
or information session) without giving the CDC cancellation
notice, it is considered a no-show. If you must no-show an
appointment, you are expected to follow the steps listed below:
- If you must cancel after the interview schedule has
been sent to an employer, type a letter
of explanation to the employer and submit a copy to the
CDC no later than 5:00 pm the day following your no-show.
No further interviews can take place or be scheduled until
the letter is received.
- If you miss an interview appointment without prior notice,
you must bring a letter of explanation to the employer
at the CDC no later than 5:00 pm the day of the
missed interview. Failure to do so will result
in your name being removed from all upcoming schedules
and no additional sign-ups will be allowed.
- Interview privileges will be restored when the CDC receives
a copy of the letter.
- In the unlikely event of a second no-show, you must
also schedule an appointment with a CDC counselor before
interview privileges are restored.
You are expected to honor all interview commitments. Reserving
time for an interview prohibits other students from taking advantage
of the opportunity. Failure to keep interview appointments without
a reasonable excuse reflects negatively upon you, your peers,
the CDC, and the University of Richmond.
The cancellation and no-show policy applies to individual
interviews, group interviews, and information sessions.

After the Interview: Follow-Up and Evaluations
Follow-Up After an Interview
Effective job search technique requires follow up with employers.
After an on-campus (or other) interview, be sure to write a
thank you
letter. This will show the employer that you are appropriately
appreciative of the time she/he has spent with you. It is also
an excellent opportunity to remind them of the important qualifications
and skills that you want to highlight. Plan to send this letter
as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours after the interview.
Evaluations
Employers will often provide feedback after an interview that
allows you to identify areas for improvement in your interview
skills. This
kind of feedback is quite useful as you proceed through the
job search process.
